Lips are itchy.

About 2 and a half months ago, my upper lip developed a rough patch. It itched quite a bit. When I looked at it very closely in the mirror, the rough patch appeared to be tiny little bumps. They had no distinct color. They remained on my lip for a few weeks. I never really moisturize my lips and they are always chap(I always lick my lip to moisturize them). I bought some chap stick and applied it. The rough patch went away the next day. The bumps are gone but to this day, my lips itch from time to time. Also, occasionally my lips become sensitive.

It is constantly on my mind, and I don't know if I might be creating my own symptoms from paranoia, but there are time when  I am quite aware that the symptoms are not of my imagination. I would hate to think it's herpes but I know that it might be. Any idea what it might be?

Hello,
There are two possibilities that are coming in my mind.

Firstly,It can be due to vit B deficiency.Take some vitamin B complex for some days and see if your symptoms improve.
Secondly,it can be due to atopic dermatitis or eczema("Atopic" refers to a group of diseases where there is often an inherited tendency to develop other allergic conditions, such as asthma and hay fever). Cheilitis(Inflammation of the skin on and around the lips)is often seen in atopic dermatitis.Diagnosed by bld test like RAST.Treatment is by topical steroids or oral therapy of corticosteroids in severe cases.Topical creams like tacrolimus ointment (Protopic) and pimecrolimus cream (Elidel) are also useful.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or in case you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
