Long term effects of dermabrasion

by Hong, Aug 08, 2004 12:00AM
I am considering treatment for acne scars. The original treatment will be a full face derm-abrasion followed by two “tuchups” (localized treatment for the deeper scars).
I'm a bit concerned about this procedure; are there any long term negative consequences?

Will my skin be more prone to wrinkles or other skin problems when I get older?
(I'm 34 now.)

Will my skin color change?
Will it become darker or uneven?

Dermabrasion is a powerful procedure.  Although it may help, there are significant possible risks, including scarring and color change.  I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, only that you should ask the treating physician these questions before you proceed.  If the answers don't reassure you, get another opinion.  You don't have top worry about wrinkling more later on, though.

Best.
