Loss of Taste after allergic reaction

Loss of Taste after allergic reaction

In trying to quit smoking I took zyban. After two weeks I developed an allergic reaction (edema of tongue and lips, rash
hands and legs) I was given steroid and benadry injection at
ER.  Prescription for medrol dose pack and xylocaine for sore
tongue.  I was also told to take benadryl 50 mg tid until
swelling of tongue subsided.  It's now about 1 week later. Swelling is gone, dry, chapped lips are almost back to normal,
however my tongue feels very smooth and coated and I don't have
a sensation of taste at all.  My question is, do you have any
idea what it is from, how long it will last and is there any
thing I can do to help.

Susan:

Don't worry.  After the skin or lips swell, they feel dry and smooth for a while, perhaps a week or two.  But since the swelling is in the ipper layers of tissue, there is no chance of scarring or permanent damage.  My advice: don't think about it.  If you think about your lips, they fel weird and you'll keep licking them, making them feel weird longer.

Best.

Thanks for your response.  What about the taste buds, when
will that come back?
