I would just like to say thankyou because I have found your website very helpful as I needed to find out whether eyelashes do fall out. I would also like to say that when I read that heart wrenching story about the women who burnt her eyelashes off while grilling my heart went out to her.
I used to have incredibly beautiful eyelashes! Long lushious and full. I played with them for a year or so and MANY fell out! I stopped with the bad habit and they grew back in but not as thick or beautiful, not only that----they grow in and FALL OUT! its driving me crazy! Just as i'm about to notice new lashes growing in-others fall out! 3 lashes falling out can make a noticable gap in my eye. I have been so stressed out because i am literally going crazy becasue i want my original eyelashes back! Is there a vitamin or a pill, injection ANYTHING i can do to help grow them back in and stay in!!!!!HELP or any advice will help!
WE NEED to know - do eyelashes EVER grow back if they fall out? This information is vital - thanks.

When I was a teenager I too lost my eyelashes. Just in one eye. There were no medical causes, obvious or otherwise. I was told that it was stress-related. I was under a lot of pressure at that time. When, a few years later, I got my life together all my lashes came back. They are now long and full, just as they were when I was young.
Some suggestions for keeping them healthy: 1)always wash eye make-up off before going to bed, 2)don't use a petroleum-based jelly to remove eye make-up as it can clog the follicles.
Hope the info was helpful.
Best,
Leisa
I have very scant and thin eyelashes. Since Im a commercial model, I have to wear the Glued on, individual eyelashes for photoshoots, but this irritates my eyes. I saw my doctor, and he wasnt helpful at all...Is there anything you can suggest that would make my eyelashes grow? Or any type of surgical transplantation of eyelash hair?
Any suggestions are appreciated!
I have been experiencing the eyelash loss for 9 months now. It starts in the corner of the left eye to the center of the lid line. I have had all the blood tests taken for the obvious, thyroid, lupus, etc. but everything is normal.
The condition started with no medical abnormality present, such as an eye infection or anything else. There is no itching or redness, but my eye is constantly irritated now because there are no eye lashes to protect half of the eye.
I have now seen a dermatologist and it was unevenful. He asked me if I was pulling them out----I said no, I am here because I am disturbed that they have FALLEN OUT. He said to come back in 6 weeks to see if there is growth. I did explain all of the above, Im under no stress, no medical condition, no medications being taken, no change in soaps or detergents etc. makeup is the same, and I rarely wear mascara. It is not happening with my right eye. He said it appears to be a form of alopecia, but did not prescribe anything.
I check the lashes with a magnifying glass and they seem to be coming in, in some areas, but not significantly. They have not fully grown back in 9 months.
I have taken some advice I found on the net to wash my lashes with baby shampoo. Thats all I am doing right now.
Any idea as to what I can do to assist the growth or how to go about getting a diagnosis about this? Again, it is only happening with my left eye.
I intend on going back to my primary doctor and asking for another referral if my second visit with the specialist yields nothing.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Regards,
Lorraine
This response is for Angela Martin. Your friend is wrong!! I've had struggles with my eyelashes since I was a teenager, and at times I have had NO lashes. They have grown back each and every time (if I simply leave them alone!). So the answer is... yes, eyelashes do indeed grow back. Sincerely, NancyD
My eyelashes also fall out alot...several per day. I am only 23 years old. I used to have thick lashes but now they are pretty thin. I dont have hair loss problem from my scalp.
This has been occuring for 2 years now. I have seen a few doctors in regard to this...however noone has been able to figure out why this is occuring.
Also, I have heard of kenelog injections as a solution to this problem. What exactly is a kenelog injection?
My eyelashes are falling out , several per day. How long do they take to grow back?
I recently had a baby, and noticed during my pregnancy that my eyelashes have become shorter and thinner. Is there anything that I can use to make they grow longer and stronger again?
Thanks
WE RECENTLY HAD A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE GROWTH OF EYELASHES AND A FRIEND OF MINE TOLD ME THAT EYELASHES CAN NOT GROW BACK THAT IT IS GENETICLY IMPOSSIBLE BUT A COUPLE OF OTHERS AND I DISAGREE IS IT FACT THAT EYELASHES CAN'T GROW BACK?
Jennie:
Did her lashes ever come back after the treatment? and were they ever as thick as the had been before she lost them? My 9 year old daughter had the same thing happen yesterday and I took her to our family doctor yesterday. They are sending her to a dermatologist today! Please write back and let me know what I am to expect.
She has had no hair loss on her scalp yet."Thank God" Just the eyelashes and
brows. I would appreciate it if someone got back to me on what to
expect. Thanks, Pam
I accidently burned my eyelashes while grilling. Will they grow back and how long will it take? Is there anything I should do.
Thanks
You can be helped. Please send your question to the regular forum. I'd like to share the answer with the whole forum. Thanks. Dr. R
I've been pulling my eyelashes out for years now,and it seems so hard to control my need to pull them,I've hiddin this by wearing eye makeup. I'm 18 now and I really want to know what it is that makes me do it,and if I should also see a doctor, only if there's anything to help me....
Jennie:
In 11-year-olds loss of eyelash hair is usually either: 1)alopecia, a condition where patches of hair fall out on the scalp or other areas and grow back after a few months, cause unknown; and 2) the child's pulling the hairs out themselves. Presumably you would have noticed her doing this, though.
I'm sure the ointment did no more than fail to stop the condition from doing what it was going to do anyway.
Have you seen a dermatologist? If not, you should. The prognosis is liely to be good, but you need face-to-face reassurance about that. Please let me know what you learn.
Best.
Dr. R
