Lower Lip Repeatedly "Splits"

Lower Lip Repeatedly "Splits"

I'm a 64-year-old male.  In the last month, I began suffering from a split, which appears on my lower lip.  This happened about a month after I had a cold sore - which itself is something I had not experienced before.  The split is vertical, and seems as though it's trying to heal.  It forms a hard scab on each side of the split, but the scabs always tear, and the split just keeps on happening.  Can you offer any hope for me?  Thank you!

I'm not sure what it is, but I would suggest putting vaseline on your lips twice a day. If the splitting is occurring from dryness, that will definitely help. It should at least help it heal.
