MSRA DX cause for concern?

by age18Fhealthybkgrnd, Sep 28, 2009 11:38PM
Info:
age : 18 , first sem. freshmen living on campus .
Health: Asthma DX 2001, Eczema during early childhood w/ no symptoms for  >5 years, no allergies or chronic conditions

situation:
Approx. 2 wks ago attended a 3 day camping event. location: open field, 4.5 tot. acres, NH <1000 in attendance.  Received msg. today , friend -male, age 16 DX w/ CA-MRSA .

Contact w/ individual in question:
-- shared small tent w/ individual ( 3 day duration)
-- shared glass tobacco pipe w/ individual <10 times
-- shared water bottle & towel w/ individual

CA-MRSA patient bkgrnd :
hospitalized approx. 6 mo. ago/  surgery for leg injury

Sept. 15 - Present
3 - 4 days post-contact:  developed a skin irritation resembling rash - small red, itchy, tender bumps , area about equivalent to the sz. of 3 nickels. back of my neck. Applied hydrocortisone ointment to relieve itch. has since diminished to about 2/3 original size

8-10 days post-contact: developed what I thought to be a pimple on my upper right buttock

10-11 days post-contact: During the nighttime 1-2 days after noticing presence of 'pimple'  area swelled immensely, was very painful, sensitive to touch/pressure, filled w/ & excreted a yellowish/brown thick pus

In light of info. stated above, I have concern that I may have contracted CA-MRSA from individual in question. I share close living quarters + bathroom w/ 5 other females in a college dormitory.

-Should seek medical attn. from college Center For Wellness or local walk-in emergency clinic?
-If doctor determines the skin irritations are cause for concern, what tests can be done to determine presence/absence of CA-MRSA, & how long to receive results?
- How contagious is CA-MRSA? & should I take any precautions to avoid spreading CA-MRSA to others I commonly have daily contact with ( i.e: roommates, classmates, close friends)  until it is determined whether or not I have contracted CA-MRSA.
- Is this potentially and emergency situation that required urgent attn. ?

Thank You for your timely response
