Mild Burning Sensation

by iamdumb, Jun 06, 2008 07:57AM
Hello Doctor,

I recently had an event with a sex worker and shortly afterwards I developed a mild but noticeable burning sensation on the skin of my penis. Doctor Handsfield did not think it was an STD based on the lack of any other symptoms other than the burning sensation on the outside of my penis. The sensation seems to come and go at different times of the day.

I also noticed it seems worse if I did not get a good nights sleep and better if I did sleep well.

Well the sensation is still active after 22 days since I saw the sex worker. I still have no other symptoms so I am inclined to believe it is not an STD. It's not painful and sometimes I forget about it if I'm busy with something, but other wise I notice it. My penis does seem to have some light white/red color variations on the head but I don't know if this is normal or not.

I found some posts where it seems some spermicides can cause burning or irritation on the genitals but it seems like it shouldn't last this long.

Can you suggest any possibilities for this condition?

Thank you.

Yes, I think the most likely cause is worry and anxiety that you picked up an STD.  I agree with Dr. Handsfield that this does not sound like an STD.  I think you should just apply a non-medicated moisturizer daily and see a dcotor in person if it still continues to bother you.

Take care.

So you think a spermicide could cause this lingering sensation?
