taken 1 month ago and have still not received the results. I have been getting information from the doctors office and I must admit I am a little disapointed in how this is being handled and how long this has taken. I had 2 moles
removed from my abdomen which the doctor said looked a little fuzzy and did not think they were anything. I called after two weeks for the results and were told that the Pathologist could not read the slides of the two moles
and they had to resend the biopsies to have special staining done and results would not be back for another 3 weeks. This sounds absolutly crazy. Previously I had 2 other moles
and could not find anything. I am worried that they found something serious and are just giving me the run around now while they do their second and third opinions. Waiting over a month for results that probablly won't but can include cancer is not fun. Does anyone know if this situation is common
Hi,
There is only one test to diagnose melanoma and that is to remove the suspicious mole and have a look at it under a microscope. This is called a biopsy.
Normally the results should be in in a week to 10 days time.
How-ever if there is a delay it could be that the lesion is not confirmed as a melanoma or the inadequate staining would have made it difficult to come to a definite conclusion.
Thouh your anxiety is understandable it is better that you wait and get the right result. It is after all to rule out/confirm a melanoma.
So the pathologist should be 100% sure of the result.
It just seems a little odd that both moles had to be re-stained. It almost makes it sound like whomever stained them originally did no do a well enough job.
