Mole Question

by nate2323, Jun 03, 2008 03:53PM
I have gone to my general doctor a couple of times to check out some moles that I was concerned about. I was concerned because some of the moles seemed to violate the ABCDE rules regarding changes in moles. For example, not having round edges, etc. Another one that was a concern ws that one of the moles were itching somewhat for a short period.

However, even with these aspects two seperate doctors did not seem to think they were a concern. If a mole is slightly abnormal but isn't very large or other issues, should I still go to a specialist? Even though the doctors don't think its warranted.

Thanks,

Nate

Hi

Firstly, it has to be ascertained that these are moles. Skin tags and flat or common warts may look like moles. These may present with itchiness and may have irregular looking borders.

Another thing is , there are the presence of risk factors which may have to be considered. One has to consider the number of moles present. Increased number of moles in the body may increase the likelihood of precancerous moles. Also, moles that are hyperpigmented that is very black may also have to be assessed. Ink blot characteristics of some moles also need to be considered.

A second opinion from another doctor may help here. This will help allay your fears regarding these moles. Just avoid scratching them or picking on them.
