Moles

by CCC19792001, Feb 14, 2007 12:00AM
HI,I am 27 y.o.and in Sep. 2006 I paid a visit to the dermatologist to check my moles for the first time in my life. They did not change, bleed etc, but just to play on the safe side. The doctor looked closer to 2 moles I have on my back. One is around 5 mm and one 4. He said he wants me to come back again after 6 months for a check. Then he checked and recorded them with MoleMax II and said again I should come back in 6 months. If any change has occurred he will remove and analyzed them.Kind of nervous I asked him if there is any problem and he said NO.He told me that I should avoid sun after 11.00 o’clock (i can stay in the sun from 8.00 – 11.00) and I should not to traumatize them. Talking to the nurse that operated the dermatoscop I found out that all my moles have normal values (they calculate a sort of score) and that only the second check is after 6 months, after this it can be annually. After 2 months I have visited his office for another problem and asked him again about the moles and he said that they have a new dermatoscop available called “Tuebinger Mole Analyser” which placed the 2 moles in the yellow part of the result scale grade. He said again that there are no problems and I should come back in 6 months. I am a little confuse about how to handle this situation. If the moles would have posed much of a danger, he would have removed them, right? Should I worry that he proposed to see them again after 6 months or is this just standard procedure and he is just very preventive?

It appears that the dermatologist is interested in following these moles but not worried enough to remove them.  The dermatoscope examinations help corroborate clinical impressions but are no substitute for them.  I don't think you need to worry.  I would follow the dermatologist's advice and return as advised.

Take care.
