Molluscum Contagiosum

by lojo47, Sep 04, 2008 07:56PM
It's not an extremely advanced case, but it certainly isn't a mild case of molluscum. I was wondering what the best treatment is that isn't hard on the wallet but still pretty quick and effective. It started on my leg and I was told it was a sweat bump so I kept shaving...then it spread higher. Now it is too much to just keep bandaged and I don't want to spread it to my partner. Please help.

Hi,

Molluscum contagiosum is a viral disorder which causes harmless but multiple bumps on the skin of the infected.

This disorder usually goes away over time, usually 3-6 months. It only infects the skin and is spread by auto-inoculation.

There are many possible treatment options including, cryosurgery, antiseptic application, removal etc.

The best way forward is to contact a dermatologist who can evaluate the lesion and then prescribe the best therapy for you.

Hope this helped. Please remember the spread through auto-inoculation is one of th most common means to spread and sustained lesions. Therefore do not scratch or remove the lesions.
