Molluscum or HPV?

Molluscum or HPV?

I think I have what are very typical symptoms of molluscum. My dermatologist excised one of these and got it tested The test results read "Skin biopsy showing a domed shaped lesion with prominent papillomatosis. the epidermis shows miled acanthosis with features of epidermolytic hyperkeratosis. The granular layer shows prominent large keratohyalin granules. There is no keratinocyte atypia. The upper dermis shows fibroplasia, telangiectasia and numerous lymphocytes with many plasma cells."
The lesions are circular and when inflamed or irritated give out a waxy discharge which can be squeezed out very similar to a pimple. They are present on my scrotum.BUT my dermatologist keeps calling it papillomatosis. Is that another name for Molluscum or is it HPV?

Second part of the question is, He excised all 3 noticeable dome shaped lesions and stitched the skin back together, however, the scar tissue at one of the regions of the lesion still itches as if a lesion was present. I looked closely and did not see any lesion? Am I still at risk of spreading molluscum?

Also, there are 2 hardly noticeable lesions, though they cannot be seen with the common eye and can only be felt. They do not irritate me or give out a discharge. Should I have to remove them too as they can be contagious and there is a chance to spread it to my partner I just started dating?

Thanks all for your help

Welcome to the Dermatology Expert Forum!

When making a final diagnosis, a dermatologist has to correlate medical history, clinical findings, laboratory test results and pathohistological description (like the one you provided). In your case, we are not able to do that (we can not see your skin nor we have full medical history).

However, based on your description of lesions only, main differential diagnoses are: inflamed sebaceous glands prominences, inflamed skin tags, folliculitis (often accompanied by itch), mollusca contagiosum,  viral warts, etc. All of the above should be treated except sebaceous glands prominences (those are a normal variant). Based on pathohistological description only, viral warts should be investigated first.

FYI- Papillomatosis is just a medical descriptive word, not a real diagnosis.
