Molluscum or not?

by HelplessInPAA, Oct 11, 2006 12:00AM
The problem occured about 7 months ago about a month after I started seeing my current girlfriend. Just a few months before I starting dating her, she had surgery for cervical cancer. I've read that HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer. Well anyways, about a month after I started dating this girl, I had unprotected sex with her and I broke out in a rash around my penis. There were red spots on the tip of my penis. They disappeared but then little red spots appear in my pubic hair and along my penis. My thighs were covered with these red spots, my stomach also had a few spots here and there around my belly button and up the sides of my stomach, (between the stomach and back). I went to the doctor and she told me that it was molluscum contiagious on my legs and stomach and said it was just a fungai or jock itch around my penis. Well I let it go because she said there wasn't anything they could do. A week or two after my doctor's visit I noticed little, flesh colored papaules. There are about 15-20 of them on my penis and at the base of my penis, and everything else has cleared up except these bumps. Its been about 7-8 months that I have had this problem. Is this molluscum contigious or gential warts? I heard genital warts are caused by HPV, the same thing that causes cervical cancer. Did my girlfriend pass this on to me? What else could this be? Please help!

It may be that these bumps are molluscum.  If so, your girlfriend should be closely examined to see whether she has them--they would be on the outside.  Molluscum is not HPV and does not lead to cervical cancer.  If your girlfriend doesn't have them, that's OK, because sometimes they come without being caught from anyone.  They do go away on their own, but can be treated, for instance with liquid nitrogen.

The penis rash sounds more like irritation than yeast or fungus.

A dermatologist should be able to confirm these diagnoses and recommend the best treatments.

Take care.

Could be molluscum, cysts or sebaceous glands. As far as I am aware the HPV that can lead to cervical cancer does not cause warts. I am not doctor, but would always go and see one to find out for a fact! Does not sound serious to me. Best of luck.

Human Papillomavirus(HPV) causes both Genital Warts and Cervical Dysplasia

Always learning - after posting this I did a search.  I found an article that says that HPV causing cervical cancer and HPV causing genital warts is a different strain.

Now I think that I had an unnecessary surgery 20 years ago when my doc diagnosed HPV/genital warts and this was followed by biopsy and surgery for dysplasia.  I was told that the genital warts/HPV were part and parcel of the dysplasia.  The risk factor from the warts "developed" into the cancer/dysplasia.

There's as much saying that this opinion is correct as the other one, I guess.

what do you make of this? Is this MC single lesion or something else.

about a week ago I had noticed just a little raised spot about a half inch up form the base of the penis, right in the middle (top). i tried to pop it, it bled a little, It went away. I then played hockey a few days later, and after i got off the ice, the spot looks bright red, maybe a little raised, its been bright red for 3 days. Seems like its healing, maybe a little flaky skin, scabbing? Doesn't hurt, doesn't itch. There is only one of these. Is this irritation?
