Ms Susan Spill

I have Sehborric Dermatits - so I have been told by the specialist - I have had it for nearly 20 years - the main symptom is intense itching to my face, ears and head (a little on my chest and top of back). I have not been free of this intense intching all this time apart from when using steriod cream which I am told not to use on my face!!! It has been so bad at times that it stops me from sleeping and makes me very irritable and unable to relax. When bad it also hurts and gets very dry (although I have greasy skin) and feels extremely sore at times. But it never gets scabby but obviouilsy goes very red and blotchy when I scratch it. The itching gets so unbearable at times - can you sugest anything. My specialsit perscribed me Dactacort which makes it worse. I have tried no end of creams over the years.
I have found that canestan HC works the best - but am reluctant to continualy use it on my face.
Have you any miraculous suggestions?

Hi again. I tried some products from the Roche-Posay range and i would definately recommend them for dermatitis, rosacea and other types of intollerant or irritated skin.

I've got Sebhorreic Dermatitis too, all over my scalp.  I've also tried many things - ketoconazole (Nizoral) and steroid lotions worked for a time but no longer, salicytic acid, zinc, witchhazel and tea tree oil all seem to make things worse.

Coal tar shampoo helps a little, but the active ingredients are washed away and the benefits are counteracted by the detergent - a classic problem for anyone with sensitive skin.  BUT...

I've found a product from shopinprivate.com called Psoriasin for scalp.  It is a coal tar product which can be left to work on the scalp without making my hair greasy.  It is not a cure, but it definitely removes ALL my symptoms if I use it regularly, and I've used it for years without the dreaded gradual tolerance building up.  I have to decant it into a bottle with a long narrow nozzle in order to better apply it through my hair and onto my scalp, but that may not be necessary, depending on where you need to apply it.

Hope this helps!

Have you tried the Eucerin range? They make a good Redness Relief Cleanser and moisturiser. Its available online and instores.
Steroid cream (Hydrocortisone) is only licenced for use on the face if directed by a doctor. You can use it for bad flare-ups but long term use can result in thinning of the skin.
I have very sensitive skin and am about to try the cleanser for intolerant skin by Roche-Posay. I'll let you know how it works...
