Multiple Pilar Cyst Syndrome

What causes this? Since about age 32 I have gone from one cyst on my scalp to a dozen or more (am now 39). Dermatologist wasn't too clear on the cause, but he claimed there is no real treatment. Is that true? Is there nothing I can do to reduce their incidence, or at least reduce the chance of them becoming infected? Will the cysts spread to other parts of my body or will they be confined to the scalp? Thanks very much.
