Nail Disorders and deceases

I am battling for 15 years with fungus in my thumb nail. It oftens turns into abscess and causes terrible pain. Already had an operation in which my nail was lifted and the nailbed cleaned. I then lost the complete nail and a new nail was formed but still with the same problem.

What kind of a specialist should I contact to see to this. I have been using antibiotics for menths but the problem would not go away.

I understand how frustrating  this is for you. Nail disorders are one of the more persistent and stubborn conditions.Based on your post,what you may be having is paronychia.Paronychia may be caused by fungal or bacterial infections.What you may have is the chronic form. This type of paronychia may be persistent for years.It may be difficult to treat. However ,there are important points to remember:

"In order to successfully treat chronic paronychia the hands must be kept clean and dry. One should avoid wet work, or use totally waterproof gloves with a cotton liner. After dirty work, wash thoroughly with an antibacterial soap. If the hands tend to dry, follow every washing with an application of a hand cream."
