I keep my toenails painted, and usually just paint over the old polish (bad idea I know), but this is why I just noticed this tonight...
It appears as though both of my big toes have a new nail growing in underneath the old nail. The old Nail is raised up quite a bit compared to the new growth, which is about 1/4". I also can see a line on both nails that appears to be where the new nail is at, and that is about 75% to the end of my toe.
The new nail looks totally fine.
I'm 25 years old.
None of my other toenails are affected.
No pain or other symptoms of any kind.
I take no medications, do not drink, do not do any drugs, stopped smoking
Upon closer inspection, the yellowing of my nails is pretty minor. Looks identicle to when you leave nail polish on for too long, and it is more yellow
The "old" nail does not appear to be any tihcker or more brittle than normal nail really..
It looks NOTHING like pictures of fungus online, however I assume those are extreme cases?
Judging by the "new" growth, it appears about 6-8 months of new growth under the old nail. As I said, the new nail is approx. 75% to the end of my toe, while the old nail has reced from my cuticle area about 20%.
I DO have a habbit of spending ltos of time on my feet wearing shoes too tight for me, and letting my nails grow too long...and when i clip my big toes my shoues would feel worlds better the next day. Emberasssing, but the truth. This stopped about 8 months ago..
Really hoping this is just from having long big toes and wearing tight shoes for 12+ hours a day...I know im talking alot but jsut want as much clarity as possible.
right now to regrow healthy nails. I was just diagnosed with celiac disease and I think this may be related. I have heard that healthy nail growth is related to your internal health...
problems? I do and my doctors have never seen anything like my toe nail (which sounds exaclty like yours), but I am going to the dermatolist soon to see if it has something to do with circulation
I've been having nail problems since i was a teen... it spread to all my toes... so it's really bad thick yellow nails...ewww... i noticed they can do laser treatment that kills the fungus and depending on how bad it is you might need to go twice...also the home remedy of white vinegar 50% vinegar and 50% water...soak 3 times a day has helped people.. also drinking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water helps fight it from the inside out... so i have heard... it doesn't hurt to give it a try but you have to be consistant and it takes a couple of weeks to notice it so don't get discuraged... I'm going to try it out myself and if all else fails i'm gonna save money for laser treatment... the cost is anywhere between 950.00 - 1500.00
