The cause of pruritus or itchiness in the genitalia needs to be ascertained. Fugal infection, contact dermatitis, warts, psoriasis and scabies may cause itchiness. In the absence of a significant sexual history then dermatitis and fungal infection may be likely. Skin itchiness is readily controlled by corticosteroids. However, in the genitalia, mildly potent steroids should be used and prolonged use should be avoided. As for natural remedies for itchiness, there is no single effective remedy natural or synthetic which can resolve pruritus unless the underlying skin condition causing this resolves. Preventing further irritation of the area such as contact with rough surfaces, sweating, humidity and heat may help alleviate itching.
