Neurofibromatosis

by pet464, Nov 08, 2008 08:31PM
My friend's "neurofibroma", as her doctor's call this disease, has this since birth.  At first  it was similar to a birthmark, and she lives and uses her hand as normal as she can. But as she grows older the mark grows bigger and looks awful.  It was located at her right hand, affecting her thumb & index finger.  Ten years ago she underwent surgical operation "debulking" and it bacame a little smaller.  Now, it grows back even bigger, the size of a child's head.   She's now experiencing pain and she can't sleep at night.  She was told, it was benign.  But now, she's worried because it gave her a terrible pain. She can no longer use her hand for writing because of the size.  What could be the possible solution for this kind of disease.  Is amputation possible?
