Never ending rash - Please help!

by Deedesign, Nov 08, 2004 12:00AM
Hello again, I had asked a previous question & you gave me good answers, thank you. My problem continues to this day. Not sure what I had/have, possibly jock itch, which turned into a staph infection, got the boils all over my thighs, groin, stomach, & butt. I am taking the 500mg of Cephalexin 4x a day & in the beginning the boils got better. I still have the redness from the boils & in the center is still a small dark area (like a big bite), they itch at times & I still get more boils popping up around my butt. Is that a normal area?

I started using the Tinactin again because I forgot about the jock itch for a while when I was concerned with this staph infection. They say it can come back (fungal infec.) if not fully treated, the fungus infection.  I am talking my Tinactin in the evenings & washing & applying Gold Balm in the mornings. I thought everything was kind of getting better but now the itch is back on my scrotum, creases in the groin area & really itchy in the crack of my butt, anal & all? I am confused? I still see redness & small red bumps, looks hair follicles infected... I have no problem going to the bathroom or urinating? I have never had this sort of problem in my entire life. I am 36 years old. I shave down there but everything started after I shaved 2 months ago. Can all of this snowball from initially shaving & then having sex (protected)?

Now my butt is so itchy & when I looked, its really red along the area where the skin is hidden & hurts some as well, around my anus & all. (the crack area)

My questions: 1. is this normal to have all these conditions at once? 2. Is this a underlying problem? 3. Does this imply my immune system is weak? 3. What is a good soap to use? 4. What do you prescribe? 5. Will this ever subside? 6. They say to use a non bacterial soap, but I need that for the boils, can you tell me a good brand soap? What to use for my crotch area?, I am using Ivory only down there, is that a good idea?

I have been to my uroligist 2x & my Dr. once, he confirmed I had a staph infection, his quote was, its a annoying problem, not serious but chronic, & when ever I get the boils he would prescribe me more 500mg of Cephalexin. COuld be in a month or 5 years... Is that right to say?

Otherwise I am a healthy 36 year old, 6'2" weigh about 190lbs. Sexually active & use protection. I read signs & symptoms on the net & its scary! What do you think Dr.?

1.  Yes, they're all pretty common.  The buttocks are a common location for the pimples and boils, by the way.
2. Not that I can think of.
3. No.
4. The antibiotic is a good idea.  I also prescribe cleaning with PhisoHex and applying Bactroban cream to the nostrils nightly to limit staph colonization in the area.
5.  Yes.
6. PhisoHex (by prescription.)
7.  Dove, Neutrogena.

Your urologist sounds correct.  It may come off and on for some time.

If you haven't seen a dermatologist, that might be a good idea.

Best.

I have just 2 questions based off of your comments:

1. Could this be a Yeast Infection, what are the signs of a Yeast Infection? Can a woman have a yeast infection & just have a foul smell?

2. Some of the medicines you prescribed I cannot get unless its prescription. The Bactroban I want but cannot get. I am using clotrimazole & that is not bad but would like to know what I can get that is a good "over the counter" product(s)?

Thank you!!

1. I doubt it.  Yeast causes redness with pustules around the edges.  Women with yeast have a cheesy discharge.
2. Try bacitracin.
3. Please see a dermatologist.

Hi,
I have the SAME exact thing that you have.
It started with jock itch (or crotch rot) we call in the military.
I started taking jock it's poweder spray.
The jock it's got better so i stopped using the medicine.

1 week later...i notice a bunch of small bumps all over my thighs and butt.

Before i realized what was happning they develped into painfull boils..

The doctor first gave me that Ciphlex stuff (little red/orange oblong gel pill),
boils went away..jock it's came back..
Then boils came back so i had jock it's and boils at the same time.
My girlfriend thought i cheated on her, and I got some kind of STD.
I thought so too!! But i didn't cheat on her...lol

Anyway i went back to the Dr. and he gave me Amoxiclin.

Again boils went away...I finished the meds...boils came back

Now i'm showering with DIAL anti bactierial soap...and Ive been off meds for 1 month.

boils are far and few between.
I have 2 right now...when it first happend i had about 12

Ive been usuing jock spray everyday..and it gets bad some days and better others...I guess it all depends on how much I sweat.
Please keep me updated on any progress...or email me at ***@****

The only real way to cure a systemic fungal or yeast infection is through diet. Fungus feeds on yeast, ie sugar, alcohol, bread, fruit. Eliminate everything sweet from your diet, along with alcohol and bread products (dairy is also a contributor) and start taking acidophilus. If you don't feed the fungus with food, it cannot live and multiply, period. There are other beneficial supplements that can help as well, but diet is the key. Eat lots of fresh vegetables (cooked or raw); you can also eat brown rice, fish, poultry, some red meat, olive oil, buckwheat, and plain yogurt with acidopholus. Supplements that kill fungus are Nutribiotic grapefruite seed extract, Solaray Capryl, Capricin 3x daily. Avoid antibiotics and cortico-steriod drugs unless absolutely necessary.

Thanks for that, how do you know so much about this? I do drink alcohol, they say 1 drink a day is good for you... Are there acidphilus piils or suplements out there?

So, the would you say that the Atkins diet would be beneficial to the diet you are talking about?

Thanks!

I had poison ivy for three months early this year & had to go on steroids for a couple of weeks orally & topically.  Then I got reinfected from a pair of boots I'd forgot I'd worn.  So, more steroids.  I now have a rash that won't go away on my bum that I've abstained from sex for much of the year.  boo-hoo.  I now find that when for the first time in my life - if I get too hot at night, etc...I wake up with spots on my backside.  I can't get too hot or I get them on my waistband.  I thought I was just not getting rid of the poison ivy, but the steroids make my bum HURT!  So, I have been taking showers in not too hot water with dial soap & using a type of gold-bond powder.  The acidophalus makes sense, though because it helps the flora in the intestines to do it's job better in straining out toxins from the blood stream.  I haven't been able to wear jeans, shorts, anything resembling panties -- especially pretty ones.  I HATE THIS STUFF!  Any suggestions on the will it get on my partner thing?  We've been through enough with poison ivy.  I wouldn't know why he would want to touch me with this ugly bum...but he's a guy. haha.
