New concerns following melanoma in situ

New concerns following melanoma in situ

I am a 31 yr old fair-skinned woman w/ history of multiple bad sunburns, tanning beds etc, who had a melanoma in situ removed from my arm three months ago.  I recently noticed a small white bump in an existing mole on my face.  It's a small, light tan, symterical, slightly raised mole. The bump almost looks like a pimple or ingrown hair follicle, like something that could pop out.  I am despairing that it is another melanoma but also despairing that my derm will want to remove it and I scar poorly and do NOT NOT NOT want a scar on my face.  But of course, nor do I want to die from melanoma.  Can a pimple or ingrown hair or something like a keratosis pilaris bump(which I also have) occur in a mole?  I recently had my upper lip waxed and wonder whether this is a plugged hair follicle.  Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.  I was told a 50% reoccurence rate, which really scares me so I worry a lot about my existing moles.  Thank you.

This sounds like an ordinary mole, not a melanoma or pre-melanoma.  I am confident that the doctor will say the same thing and leave it alone.  A melanoma in situ is a very early lesion with an excellent prognosis.  All you need to do is get checked regularly.  Most, perhaps all, of the other spots and moles you have can stay forever.

Best.
