Non itching rash

Non itching rash

Hello Doctor!  Over a week ago, I noticed an oblong shaped red mark on my back shoulder blade.  It is whitish in the center, but does not itch or bother me in the slightest.  A few days later, smaller ones began appearing on upper chest and collarbone.  About three days later, hundreds of small red bumps appeared on stomach and lower back. These appear to be different in shape and appearance than the earlier ones.  I experience no itching or pain.  I have no know allergies, nor have I changed diet, detergents, etc.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Kim:

You've given a nice description of what may well be a condition called pityriasis rosea.  This begins as a "ringworm-like" oval patch, which is followed by lots of smaller versions on the torso and upper arms and legs.  It lasts a few weeks and goes away.  Cause unknown.  Not contagious.  Happens once.  If I were you, I'd see a doctor to be sure.

Best.
