Non itchy red rash on limbs

My son a 2 and half years old suddenly showed rash on his arms from the wrists till above the elbows and on his legs from around the ankles to mid thighs or higher. He has been on antihistaminic for 4 days now and we were not able to identify the cause, yet the rash didn't disappear.

Hello,
Urticaria or hives basically are idiopathic but can occur due to viral infections. You should continue with the antihistaminics as they will relieve itching. For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used, whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid. But they are available under prescription and should be taken only after consulting a dermatologist. applying calamine lotion also helps.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

We consulted his doctor on the first day of the rash and he said it is urticaria, what is worrying me is that it is not itchy and not responding to antihistamincs

Hello,
Such a rash which is present all over the body can be due to viral infection or allergic reaction. Hence it looks like a viral infection which is causing these symptoms. Please get an examination done from a pediatrician to confirm the diagnosis. Till then apply calamine lotion on the itchy rash and give him acetaminophen if he is running fever.
