One dry foot?

The skin on my left foot is perfectly normal...soft, supple, healthy looking. My right foot is dramatically different, and has been so for at least 3 years. The sole is consistently extremely dry. The skin feels thick, and will crack unless I keep up a constant barrage of Vaseline-type ointments. It is worse on the right side of the sole, but affects about 80% of the sole to varying degree. Once the skin cracks, it is quite painful and requires a week or so to heal. The cracking is painful enough that I seldom forget to apply the ointment each morning before I put on my sock.

My wife thinks it must surely be some sort of Athlete's Foot problem, but there is no rash, no itching, and it never travels to my other foot and is never painful except when the skin cracks.  Any help is greatly appreciated.......many thanks!

I do not have an answer unfortunately, only a reply that ai myself have the same issue, only opposite feet. My left is worse than my right! Hoping the answer previously given to your question has helped! Going to try it too.

After few years of no change in this condition, I happened to go on a Caribbean cruise. The ship had a mineral pool in the spa, and I soaked there 15-30 minutes every day for the week. Within a week of returning home, my foot was completely healed...fully returned to normal, and I have had no problems with dryness since that cruise.
I do not know what minerals were in that pool, but I am convinced that it healed my foot. Believe me, this made the cost of the cruise worth every penny.
I'm not sure how this will help you, but perhaps you could come up with some type of mineral solution to soak the foot in at home. I hope so, because I well know this condition is very aggravating.
SeaRay1986 - Maybe it was potassium in the mineral bath that was absorbed into your dry feet. Low potassium, as I understand, can be the cause of dry, hard skin. I read that epson salts can further dry the skin if used too much so your spa must have used something better than that.

I too have the perplexing issue of one dry and one perfectly normal baby-soft foot.  I can only think that I started at some point over scrubbing and cleaning my right foot - basically over treating it because I had assumed it had some sort of athletes foot, and in doing so I think I destroyed the natural skin biome.  For a few weeks now I have stopped scrubbing it and using soap every time. I started using a Ph balanced lotion every morning and before bed, and with this I started to see a lot of improvement. Last night however, I washed both feet with soap and scrubbed a bit of dead skin off, but I didn't put the lotion on after and today my right foot looked dry again with a whitish dryness that emphasizes all the lines in my foot. :-/  I bought a foot peel mask and am going to use it once on my right foot which will presumably, over the next 7-10 days, peel off all the dead skin and callus. Reading the above advice, I am now also going to drastically decrease any soap and water and continue with the lotion until it is resolved... and if that doesn't resolve it I will be seeing a dermatologist.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be lichen simplex chronicus. Lichen Simplex Chronicus is seen in people with eczema.

It is treated like chronic eczema by decreasing water and soap contact, and applying emollients. Topical steroids are almost always needed to control the symptoms. You can use mild steroid cream like Dermacort and if the symptoms persist then high potency steroids and oral steroids may be needed.
My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist to get the diagnosis confirmed. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

I have the exact same problem but it occurs on my left foot only. Thanks for the info.  I'm gonna look more into this.
