Hello Jodi
Did you solve your problem?
I am having thrush (for 2 months now) and this came around 4 months after having sex with a girl (protected), however, I received unprotected fellatio from her. Have you had an HIV test done 3 months after your incident (I read you gave unprotected fellatio which is a low risk, but not zero risk). I have three tests done after the incident, the last being about 4 months 1 week from that. Around the same time I was diagnosed with oral thrush.
Strange thing is I am not diabetic, I didn't take too much antibiotics (I heard you have to take lots of antibiotics for thrush to happen - I only took 5 pills).
I am having swollen tastebuds in the tip of my tongue along with this withe tongue (similar to you). I am in my 6th day of fluconazole 100mg and seems there's a bit of improvement, but the thrush persists.
Please, can you update us with your case?
Jodi, I see from your question that you went to the 'demonologist' Thank God that they are dermatologists and hopefully nothing to do with demons! (Just joking, I do lots of typographic errors myself) Cheers!
Hello,
To rule out any thrush infection, get an examination done from your doctor and get a KOH examination of the scrapings done of these white coatings.
The other possibility is of black hairy tongue which appears as a result of the growth of fungus on the surface of the tongue. To confirm the diagnosis, I suggest you to consult a dermatologist.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Quite so.Hairy tongue follows antibiotic therapy.
Hi! Yup, had 2 swab test done. Came back negative. The dermatologist said it could be that because i'm on medication, hence it was negative. It's weird because this came about only after I took antibiotics.
Why not get a scraping done to look for the budding yeasts? By the way hairy tongue may also appear brown, white or yellow. Your doctor is indeed right that with proper oral hygiene it should get alright.
Hi! Thanks for your reply. In that photo, the coating on my tongue was stained yellow by Nystatin. The coating is actually whitish now. When scratched off, it will keep coming back. My doctor said if it is indeed thrush, it should clear on its own. Is that true?
Hello, More likely to be an "yellow hairy tongue" and nothing else! Temporary, harmless problem. B-complex vitamins should do. Do consult your doc.
Anyone can help me with this? It's been almost a year and it hasnt gone away.
