PAINFUL WHITE LUMPS ON VAGINA

by kat2005, Dec 14, 2004 12:00AM
I am 30 years old and stupidly drunkenly had one night stand & unprotected sex with a stranger. The following day I felt sore on the outside of my vagnia lips which i attributed to the vigorous sex and  how run down i was at the time. I have had herpes for 6 years and assumed this was just the the beginning of a typical herpes outbreak.

A week later when no lesions had appeared (i usually get one or two)  and the "herpes" should have passed (they usually last only a few days) i was still feeling incredibly sore. I went to the sex clinic who tested me (negetive) for ALL STDS but tested positive for thrush gave me a tablet to insert in my vagina overnight to combat the infection and cream to apply 3 times a day.

Another week passed and the area had become very inflamed and a dark red colour and felt like I had been scratched with razors mostly around the outside of the lips, the back near the anus and just near the clitoris.

I returned to the sex clinic and was tested again with negetive results to everything including thrush this time. Two doctors had a look (i asked for a 2nd oppinion) and both assumed it must still be a bacterial infection. They gave me a stronger thrush cream with steroid and a EDP soap to wash with and if there was no improvement to come back in 10 days.

I had a close look a few days later and I noticed small white lumps with a darker red ring around them in small clusters around the outside of the lips, where the pain is.

It since been another 7 days with no improvement with canasten cream 5x a day. I am having difficulty sitting/functioning and its affecting my concentration/work. It has the same painful scratchy feel as a herpes outbreak at its peak but it has been almost 4 weeks ongoing since  the intercourse!! (not normal for herpes) I also dont have the regular flu-like symptoms that comes with herpes.

I have been on the web for days now and nothing seems relevant to my condition. HPV or Mollescum sound like the lumps but they are not supposed to be painful. Scabies & lice are supposed to be itchy not painful. And herpes never lasts this long. I am trying to get in to another hospital to see another doctor for a 4th oppinion but its half day from work each time (uk hospitals take hours) for all the testing to find out everything is negetive.

Please Please please help!!! do you have any idea what this could be? Or whether it could be something other then an STD (hence why the clinic cannot diagnose correctly) Its becoming unbearable not knowing

I'm afraid I can't shed much light form this distance.  My best guess is that this is some sort of bacterial folliculitis (inflammation of the follicles.)  It sounds nothing like herpes or any STD.  Perhaps an oral antibiotic might help.  You will most likely need to invest another half-day in another opinion.  Meantime, soaking in warm water and applying an antibiotic like bacitracin may help, as well as sitting on a pad similar to the kind pregnant women use.

Sorry I can't be more definitive.

Best.

Dear Sleepyred (and doctor),

I have the same EXACT story as you.  To the point that it was a little freaky, reading yours.

My problems started right after a night with a new guy.  I, too, have been to the doctor with no help.  They say that there is nothing wrong.  It's been five weeks now, with very little relief.  The burning / itching was sometimes unbearable.  Doesn't hurt to the touch, and there's not much difference in appearance, other than a little redness and a couple bumps that look like pimples (like an infected hair maybe).  But the irritation is definitely still there.

I don't know what to do at this point, now that the doctor thinks it's nothing.  (I wish he could feel what I'm feeling).  My biggest fear now is whether or not it's ever going to go away on it's own.  I can't take much more of this.

Were you ever able to get a proper diagnosis?  Have you found a cure?

Please advise.
