Paget's Disease

Is early Paget's disease always a diagnosis that is made by a dermatologist with a biopsy or by a breast surgeon?  I am concerned about a skin change to my nipple (right breast, no discharge, nipple only, white in color, not itchy) and have been referred by my primary Dr. to a breast surgeon and now to a dermatologist, whom the surgeon said would want to perform a biopsy.  If it is not Paget's what would a biopsy by a Dermatologist be looking for?

Hi,

A biopsy would be required for the confirmed diagnosis of Paget's disease.

What symptoms are you having? This could be to find out the cause of the skin lesions that you are having and to rule out paget's disease.

Do you have nipple involvement too?

What is your age?

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.
Regards.

Dermatologists send everything out for biopsy. They don't trust their eyes alone. It's a good thing. Don't worry, but DO see the dermatologist to have the spot checked.
