Painful pea size bump in pubic area

I frequently wax my public area (bikini/sphinx).  In the last few months there has been a bump in my pubic area/groin/inner thigh that has now developed into the size of a pea (under the skin).  There is discoloration (red/purple), it is painful to the touch, sometimes a sharp pain when it isn't touched. My hair is very thick due to my hispanic/african-american decent. It is NOT and STD as I practice abstinence. I have a gynocology exam for my annual in the next month, and will point it out to her for help.  I am scared that it will be bad: like a deep infected follicule or a cyst and they will cut up my pubic area. I have been prone to folliculitis, but usually it heals itself, hence is why I have concerns. Does anyone have any insight to what it may be?  How is a deep infection cured??
