Painful skin – inner thigh, and legs

by mayjune, May 24, 2002 12:00AM
About 3 or 4 months ago I began to have burning sensations on the skin of my inner thighs.  It would last for about 20 minutes then go away.  There was also the feeling of pins and needles all over my legs (down to my knees) that would last all day, getting worse as the day progressed.  Along with this were very small red dots, almost like pimples, scattered throughout the skin on my upper legs and inner thing area.  There were not a whole lot of them, and they were not clustered.  After 3 weeks it went away, and I assumed it was over with.  I never really knew what caused it.  Unfortunately about a month or two later the problem came back.  My doctor told me to start using dry skin lotion (Ucerin), so I did.  I thought that helped it, but it now has come back.  I’ve been using dry skin lotion for about 3 weeks now.  A few hours ago I had the burning inner thigh sensation, which prompted me to write this.  Other odd things that have happened recently are a hemorrhoid, which I’ve now had for one week and two cold sores within the last month or so.  I’ve had cold sores before, just 2 with the last 6 weeks seems more them normal.  I have no idea if these things are related.  Any idea of what this could be?

Perhaps you were sweating or otherwise overheated, and red dots are clogged follicles.  The best way to treat that is to apply 1% hydrocortisone twice a day and Sarna lotion as needed for itch (both are over-the-counter.)

The symptoms you describe are not those of any infection, allergy, or STD.  Hemorrhoids are likewise unrelated.

If you worry a lot about an area, it starts to tingle.  I suggest you treat the symptoms and otherwise pay them as little attention as you can manage.

If the rash (dots) persists or spreads, or the tingling won't go away in a week or two, you should see a skin doctor.

Best.

I made a mistake to my original post.  These are Cankersores in my mouth, not cold sores.  In other words, I do not beleive I have Herpes in my mouth.  Although, the buring sesation in my inner thighs might be herpes?  Maybe Folliculitis?
