Pencil eraser sized red painless splotches on back..

My fiance developed these pencil-eraser sized red splotches on his back. They are not raised, they are not itchy or painful. In fact, I noticed them before he did. They occurred overnight. I don't believe its shingles, vasculitis, petechiae or any allergic reactions. Dr. had no idea what this was, and referred him to a dermatologist . However, it could be six months until he's seen. They seem to be in a pattern, as if they're following blood vessels. Theyre be4neath the skin , and they do not come to a point or head as sores do. Any ideas? All info appreciated.

The thing is, it looks like blood vessels popped. Its not on the top of the skin, its beneath.  There is no itching, no burning. With the  discoid eczema , is there crusts? There is no well defined edge to the shapes. It doesnt appear to be inflamed or irritate him, and he hasnt been bitten by insects or had any physical activity to cause a rash. They occurred overnight.   He didnt notice it until i pointed it out. im going to upload pics soon, ill link everyone to them :) thanks!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be discoid eczema  or pityriasis rosea.

Pityriasis rosea is a common human skin disease which presents as numerous patches of pink or red oval rash. The rash may be accompanied by low-grade headache, fever, nausea and fatigue and sometimes by itching.

No treatment is usually required. In most patients, the condition lasts only a matter of weeks or months(upto six months)

If the rash persists then it will be best to get it evaluated from a dermatologist.Other possibilities have to be ruled out then.

Hope it helps.Take care and regards.

Well, the other more obvious one with a pattern is pityriasis rosea,a self limiting condition. It is only possible to mentally visualise, and dermatology is mostly a pictorial diagnosis.

It doesnt resemble striae. Its spots. Not stretchmark type lines?

I meant to put this under general dermatology inquiries, not acne. All apologies.
