Penile Psoriasis

Dr. Rockoff,

1.) Do you recommend the use of Protopic for penile psoriasis? My concern comes from having read that it now requires and FDA warning and has been linked to skin cancer and lymphoma.

2.) I believe that erections and friction during sleeping are effecting my penile skins' ability to heal, do you recommend any way to counteract this problem?

3.) How long should it take redness/discoloration of the glans (glands) to subside with the use of Pramosone 2.5%? How long, and how frequently do you recommend applying this medication?

4.) Which type of underwear (briefs, boxer briefs, or boxers) do you recommend to alleviate penile irriation?

Thanks.

Only if steroids don't work.  The concern about lymphoma is remote enough that Protopic can be used in appropriate settings if clinically appropriate.

Can't think of any.  I don't think you are correct.

I recommend that redness and discoloration not be treated with steroids, even mild ones like Pramosone 2.5%.  I recommend no treatment, only time.

4.) Which type of underwear (briefs, boxer briefs, or boxers) do you recommend to alleviate penile irritation?

Anything that doesn't rub.
