Penile psoriasis follow up from May 23rd

by Brian3573, Jun 24, 2008 11:32PM
I'm following up to the previous question.

My symptoms are identical to those of the previous discussion however the red marks i experience only display after increased friction through intercourse etc...They remain for weeks and months unless i discontinue sex/friction.

What would possibly cause such symptom to come and go like this in the same location etc...?

I had previously thought to have been exposed to herpes but after a herpes 2 antibody test, i'm clear. They didn't check for type 1. Could this be the cause?

Hi,

Irritant dermatitis may sometimes be caused by friction. In your case, constant manipulation of the area and sexual activity may actually lead to dermatitic skin conditions. Aside from sexual activity, there may be other factors that one needs to consider here. This may include contact dermatitis wherein latex reactions and reactions to urine and bodily discharge may be possible.

The fact that this is closely associated with friction or sexual activity may increase the likelihood of dermatitis. Psoriasis on the other hand is also a close differential. In inverse forms of psoriasis , there is no noticeable scaling .The rash may appear reddish and may persist. Trauma or mechanical injury may also aggravate the skin condition.

Psoriasis may present with similar skin conditions in other parts of the body such as behind the ears, lining of the scalp and the umbilicus. Is this true to your case?
