Penis Scars

by h0p1, Feb 13, 2007 12:00AM
I am a 25 year old male. I am uncircumcised & about 5 months ago I masturbated and I overdid it a little bit and I had a very sensitive & irritated patch of skin on the shaft of my penis near the head.  The skin in that area has lost its pigmentation, about the size of a nickel and another small spot.  I tried hard not to touch it for a long time and have also tried avoiding intercourse to try to give it proper time to heal with occasional slip ups.  When I do these things it seems to regress and become sensitive & irritated again.

I saw a dermatologist and she looked at it for about 1 second and told me it was Vitilago and gave me a prescription for Protopic.  But from all of the research I have done I have seen that usually Vitilago is on the head of the penis and have not seen anyone complain of irritation or sensitive skin.  I do have minor patches of Vitilago under my arms as well so im not totally doubting the diagnosis.  I’m just wondering if its possible that rather than Vitilago it could be scarring from abrasive contact and if in either case there is a chance for a full recovery back to non irritated skin and return of pigmentation.  I have been applying the protopic for about 2 weeks with little to no change at all so far.  Are there other treatments or questions I should ask about in my follow up ?  My concern is more the sensitivity of the skin and how easily it becomes irritated (although I’m not very happy about the pigmentation it also makes me self conscious) How long will it normally take for the skin to heal to full strength with Pigmentation?

It sounds like vitiligo.  If Protopic works, it usually takes about 3 months, so you should keep it up.

You can't cause scarring or permanent damage and scarring from masturbation or intercourse.  I suspect that the 'sensitivity' you describe relates more to worry over what you may have done to your skin than from the skin itself.  I doubt that you need to curtail your sexual activity.  I advise you to consult the dermatologist you saw about these sensations you have and ask whether you need to do anything at all.

Best.
