Perioral dermatitis

by ak49, Feb 17, 2004 12:00AM
I wrote you before in regards to a rash on my face, it seems that it is perioral dermatitis. I took your advice and I have remained on the doxycycline and continued the metrolotion. i went to see another dermatologist and she said that i should continue with those two things and also she gave me econazole nitrate cream to try, she said that it will not make it worse and at worst it wont do anything. I have actually noticed an improvement from the doxycycline. I am taking 75 mg 2 times a day? Do you think that is enough? My rash is not as bumpy anymore and the redness is fading however it is still a little bumpy and embarassing... How long do you think it will take to heal completely? And if i follow this course of treatment what are the chances it will come back?

The dose is fine.  It takes 1-2 months. generally, and in most cases either doesn't come back at all, or does so only once in a while, at which time it can be treated quickly and well.  But when it goes--and I'm confident it will-it leaves no marks at all.

Take care.
