Persistent Red Scrotum with Itching and Burning

by confusedguy, Jul 03, 2007 12:00AM
I've had a persistent red scrotum for 3 full months. This is accompanied by burning sensation in two specific areas, the very front of the testicle on each side. It seems that this is where the largest "clusters" of blood vessels are located or intersect. I also get some itching around the rim of the scrotum and the specific patches where the burning occurs and the scrotum becomes very sensitive at times. The redness is almost certainly vascular. I can get rid of the redness by lying down, face up, but it returns when I stand up and become active again.

A few weeks before this happened, a urologist diagnosed me with chronic epidytimitis (had it for more than 2 years) and perscribed me doxycycline, just in case to see if it would work. This, unfortunately did not work for my epidytimitis. While on the antibiotic, I did jump into the ocean. I do not know if this is related or not.

I did have unprotected sex one month prior and I do admit that I became anxious and stressed about the possibility of contracting something. What does this sound like and how should I cure it?

It sounds like anxiety over your episode of unprotected sex, followed by excessive examination of your scrotum.  Blood vessels on the scrotum are normal, and they sometimes look redder than others, depending on how much blood is flowing.  This will depend on position and other factors.  If you're still anxious, have a skin doctor take a look.  Then you can stop being anxious and looking unnecessarily.

Best.

Thank you for your reply Dr. Rockoff. Can you tell me, does genital focused anxiety directly cause extra bloodflow to enter this area and cause these symptoms?
