Dear Dr. Rockoff,
I really appreciate your time. I need to apologize for my insufficient post; yesterday, I was very emotionally affected discovering this condition that just recently got much worse. To get a better understanding of my condition, I try to explain the best I can. Starting at the age of 19 years, I noticed little white spots around my mouth and shin area. They were not so noticable, so I stayed away from direct sun exposure. However, two days ago, two more white spots appeared on my check. I am very scared it would spread. I have been reading a lot of articles online. This condition is called virtiligo. I found one website www.pigmentum-inc.com that sounds very promising. They actually have some research-based products. I just dont want to spend so much money on something that doesnt work. Have you ever heart of this product? I also made an appointment with my doctor. However, my husband is in the military, so I rely on military doctors, which are not so helpful most of the time. I would appreciate your help.
Thank you so much!
Your sincerly,
Kathrin Simac
In general, medications to lighten skin don't work very well, even the ones that need a prescription. I don't know anything about the product you mention, so I can't comment. Of course, I also don't know the exact nature of the pigmentation you say you have. It could be from irritation, from hormones, or from some other reason. You'll need to consult in person with a doctor about this, as well as about potential treatments.
Best.
Dr. Rockoff
