Pimple Next to Lip

by tomASS, Dec 07, 2004 12:00AM
I have a couple of questions, and I want to thank you for your time. I am 34 years old and I still have acne. It comes and goes, and some times it is more severe then others. About three weeks ago, I had a pimple right next to my upper right lip. It looked like it was on the skin part. However, it got big enough where it looked like it was on a part of the lip as well. There was no blister. It just was red and went down about 5 to 6 days later. No scabs, no white head.

Here are my questions.

1) Can you get a pimple next to your lip? I don't believe it was HSV, since I tested negative for HSV 1 and 2 using a Focus HerpeSelect IGg test about 10 weeks ago (and 6 months after possible exposure).

2) Do I need another HSV test?

3) Is it easy for adults to catch HSV 1? The girl I kissed had no lession showing. I don't even know if she had anything. It was a one time thing, and we really didn't really kiss that much (no heavy kissing. Maybe 10 or 12 kisses on the lip).

4) I read during my research that if an adult catch HSV-1, that first outbreak would have been more severe (ie fever, swollen gland, etc..). Is that true?

Thanks again for your time.

1. Yes.  it can be a pimple and doesn't have to be HSV.
2. I doubt it.
3.  It's possible but not likely of there's no visible blister.
4. Most people get a first attack that is mild, reflecting antibodies already present (in other words, the first exposure didn't produce fever, swollen glands, etc.)

If I were you, I'd forget about herpes of the lip.  If you get a cold sore, you can worry about it then.  Show a doctor your pimple just to be sure, then just leave it alone.

Best.

Hello,
I also have a similar problem, but the pimple is on my lower lip.  It doesn't pop and I had it for over a year.  It hasn't gone away.  I am a smoker and was wondering could it be just callus from that because the bump is on the part of my lip wherre I hold my ciggarette.  Thanks.

My problem is very similar to the things i've been reading on here. About a month ago I noticed something in my mouth, it was white and was very painful, I was told it was a canker sore. Then about a couple weeks ago I got some other sort of thing in my mouth and it turned red. Now just last night I noticed there was something on the uper right side of my lip, just right near the coloring. It looked like a pimple so of course I attempted to pop it. This morning when I woke up it was a bit bigger and now it is yellow and looks like It could be filled with pus. I am so paranoid that I may have herpes 1.
