Pimples around the mouth!? Herpes, Coldsores, or just Pimples?

I've been getting pimples around the mouth once in a while. I've done some looking around and people say its either due to using too much lip balm, too much smoke, or something like that. Then another one said its cold sores. And yet another one said its due to using a toothpaste with tartar protection or "all in one" toothpaste. So im completely dumbfounded on what these things are. I mean they turn into white heads. So that's part of the reason that confuses me. Someone please help?

One possibility for such pimples is folliculitis. Keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as Neosporin and Bactroban are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case.
