Please help skin redness on my nose and cheeks

by TJR7, May 26, 2009 05:35PM
Could you please explain what is going on with my face?  I am 20 years old, for the last 2 years it is slowly getting worse, it started out on the inside of my nose, but is moving down my cheeks into my t-zone. I use to do drywall, I put palmers lotion on my face twice a day, I wash my face twice a day. I am blond with blue eyes. I have a picture, but not sure how to post it. In the morning it is scaly then when I wash it it turns red, at night it itches very badly, sometimes I think I scatch my face at night because of it. I have also tried hydrocortizone 1%. My mom is alergic (allergic) to a couple things the other day she mentioned she was alergic (allergic) to niacin. If you need any more info let me know. Thank you for creating this site, any imput is awsome.

Photodermatitis is one,the other is rosacea.I go for the former, microfined zinc oxide sunscreens should help you.Do consult your doc.

Hello,
I cannot confirm anything without examination but three possibilities can be there. It can be seborrheic dermatitis (causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face),eczema or rosacea.

Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps.

For mild-moderate wymptoms a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide) which are available on prescription.

Also shampoo your hair with a good antidandruff shampoo and use good quality moisturizers to prevent moisture loss from the skin.

If still the symptoms do not improve then pls get a clinical examination done by a dermatologist.
I hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
