Porokeratosis of Mibelli

by Barbara, Oct 29, 1999 12:00AM
What is Porokeratosis of Mibelli and is it serious?  I went to the dermatologist this morning to have two subaceous (sp?) cysts
removed from my scalp and while I was there I had the doctor look at a rash on my bottom.  He told me that he thought it looked like Porokeratosis and that he wanted to biopsy the rash.  Unfortunately he could not do this today so now I need to wait a couple of weeks for my next appointment.  Should I be worried?  What is the treatment for this condition?  Please advise.  Thank you.

Barbara:

Porokeratosis of Mibelli is a hereditary condition which primarily affects the exremities with spots which become large and round.  Even your brief description doesn't sound like that.

Despite its many syllables, Porpokeratosis is not serious.  Get the biopsy done, so your doctor will know what it is, but don't lose any sleep over this in the meantime.

When you find out, please let me know.

Best.

is it possible to treat porokeratosis? I have got it for some ten years now and it gets worse and worse. Do I have to stay out of the sun? Can I get rid of it by laser-treatment? I live in Holland.

I have been diagnosed with DSAP(disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis).  I am being followed by a dermatologist who currently has me on a glycolic acid (15 strength).  While the affected areas are smoother now, they are still red.  Is laser treatment currently being used for this or only in extreme cases?
