My mom had what she thought was a boil on her inner upper, thigh. During the night, 2 weeks ago she scratched it which caused the boil and skin area to open up and bleed. Since then she has been cleaning it with alcohol and keeping it covered with gauze but now the skin around the boil is red, itchy and burning. She doesn't think it's infected because it doesn't hurt and there are no red lines spreading away from the initial area. She thinks she may have an "alcohol burnAirway burn Burn, blister - close-up Burn, thermal - close-up Burns Burns - resources Eye burning - itching and discharge First degree burn Heartburn Heartburn prevention Minor burn - first aid - series Painful swallowing" from using too much rubbing alcohol on her skin. Is that possible? And if so, how can she treat that? Right now she is just keeping the area covered and applying an antibiotic cream to the area.
