Possible skin cancer during early pregnancy question

by samizmommy, Sep 29, 2006 12:00AM
Hi!  I just found out I am pregnant a couple days ago with our second child.  I havent been able to see a doctor yet due to waiting for our insurance to be effective in a couple weeks.  I think I am about 5 weeks along.  About 1-2 months ago I noticed a spot on my chest.  It looks kind of like a blister but not as raised.  It is barely raised, almost hard to even tell if it's raised.  It has not changed in shape or since I noticed it and it is flesh colored in nature.  It might be a little bit darker than the rest of my skin but barely noticeable.  The color has not changed either.  It is about the size of a pea but oval in shape.  Sometimes it feels a little itchy  (not sure if it is the actual spot that itches) but it is not flaking or bleeding at all.  It is almost flat, only slightly raised.  It is smooth in appearance..almost looks like it has fluid in it.  There is no crusting or brown color at all.  It seems to have come up suddenly.  I tanned some in my 20's (34 now) Growing up, my mom never put sunscreen on us so I probably burned off and on growing up.  I am really worried about this but cant get it checked up until our insurance is effective in a couple more weeks.  If it needs to be removed, can I have it done during pregnancy?  If it is questionable and I have to wait, it will stress me out..I will probably obsess over it!  It has not grown so far or raised anymore that I can tell but it has not gone away.  There is no irritation surrounding it or the borders.  Does it sound like early skin cancer?  If so, can I safely have it removed in early pregnancy?  Any help would be very much appreciate as I am driving myself crazy.

Congratulations on your pregnancy--relax and enjoy it.  The bump is probably a clogged pore.  Please leave it alone--no picking or squeezing--and show your doctor in couple of weeks (if, that is, it's even still there.)

Take care,

Dr. Rockoff
