Pregnancy AFTER Accutane

by Susan, Mar 19, 2001 12:00AM
My dermatologist has recently recommended Accutane for my acne. I know that pregnancy isn't safe during the course of treatment. My question is this: Are there any (even remote) risks of birth defects after conclusion of the treatment? And also how long should we wait to become pregnant after the treatment is over? Thanks.

No, none, no risks at all.  The reason is that Accutane does not stay in the body.  Recommendations are to avoid pregnancy for 1 month after stopping the drug.

Good luck.
