Hi, I am 30 weeks pregnant and have had some minor fingertip peeling. I am wondering if this is pregnancy related or if there is a deficiency somewhere? I obviously take Pre-natal vitamins and eat very healthy. This peeling is minor, with only 3 of my fingertips, but is annoying! Please advise.
This is not directly related to pregnancy. This could be because of skin that is stretched which happens if there is swelling or it could be due to Vitamin A or Vitamin C deficiency.
Stress, though it sounds far-fetched always aggravates skin conditions and especially hastens skin cell turn-over.
Exposure to cold, dry air can cause dry skin and peeling, also soaps/lotions/ detergents can cause hands and fingertips to become irritated and peel. In pregnancy the skin sensitivity is increased, probably due to the hormones, this could cause allergic reactions.
You can apply Vitamin A or E cream on the finger-tips and avoid washing with harsh soaps/detergents. Also avoid prolonged contact with water.
