Premature Greying of Hair

by icycool60, May 17, 2008 11:56AM
I am a 21 year old male. I have a lot of white hair on my scalp.
Is there any cure for premature greying of hair ?
Also, is it true that once a hair becomes white, it cannot turn black again ?

Hi,

Premature greying of hair is seen in cases of genetic predisposition, endocrine disorders, vitiligo, etc.

You should consult a skin specialist to rule out the above causes in your case and find out the reason of your symptoms.

Let us know about what the specailsit advises and psot us about how you are doing.

Regards.

Hi,

As you had advised, i consulted a dermatologist to diagnose my problem.
He says its because of genetic reasons (My father had the same problem).

Now, i want to know whether there is any cure for it ?
Also, can a white hair turn black again ?

Thanks.

Hi,

I am guessing the dermatologist must have told you the answer to your query.

There is no cure documented or reported to have effect in case genetic predisposition, but you could talk about hair transplantation - though the exact role of that too is not documented and no reports are available about the success rates.

Let us know about what your doctor advises and post us about how you are doing.

Regards.

Hi

Well, even he is saying that there is no cure to it.

But i had once consulted a homeopathic doctor regarding this. He said that it can be cured. According to him, proper diet, exercise and his medicines should have a positive effect......

Hi,

You could try the homeopath medications , but do consult your skin specialist before you start any medications.

Like i said in my previous post, and as what your skin specialist also tells you - There is no cure documented or reported to have effect in case genetic predisposition.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Regards.

hi

Thanks for ur help......

well, i have one more question.....
Is it safe to regularly color hair ( I give a gap of minimum 45 days) ?
Does hair coloring increase hair fall ?
I am suffering from the same.....when i skim my hair, a few strands come in my hand. More hair falls when i shampoo my hair.

what are other causes of hairfall ?

Thanks.

Hi,

Hair colouring does have some harmful effects due to the chemicals used including hair fall.

Causes of hair fall include - infections , skin conditions, systemic diseases, side effects of medications, etc.

Regards.

Hi

well, does tension cause hair fall ?

Whenever i am tensed, i get some strange feeling in my scalp - as if some chemical reaction is taking place or as if a light electric current is passing through it.And that feeling stays there till i am relaxed.

Does tension also cause premature greying of hair ?

I get tensed very easily.

Thanks.

Hi,

Stress is a cause of both premature greying of hair and hair loss.

You should try to remain calm and control your emotional outbursts.

Let us know about how you are doing now.

Eat a healthy balanced - protein rich diet.

Keep us posted.

Regards.

Thanks for answering my queries........

There is one last hair issue.........

My hair is thick and light. Is it a bad thing ? does it make hair fall off more easily ?
I feel that my hair density is less than normal (there are less hair on my scalp than there should have been).
Is there a way to increase hair density ?
What is the ideal/healthy hair type (In terms of thickness, weight, etc.) ?
