Propecia and dandruff

Hi,

I recently started Propecia about a month ago. This past two weeks, I have been noticing more hair shedding and also dandruff on the top of my head (with a few areas of "dandruff clump"). I found via googling that the hair shedding is apparently a sign that propecia is "working." However, I can't really find a definitive connection between propecia and dandruff.

Can someone verify if there is a connection? And if so, how long will the dandruff last and will it go away if I use a dandruff shampoo?

Hello,
There is no proven connection between Propecia and dandruff. However, you can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur.
