I have psoriasis and have had it for almost 20 years now, I've learned to deal with it but it has become quite severe in the last three months. My scalp is covered in it and I've notice my glands behind my ears
. I'm using a new medication that is mixed with mineral oil (I can't remember the other component) and it seemed to be working. It peels off the top layer and now it feels as though my scalp is raw and may even be infected. It could partly be my fault as I comb my head
. I now have it on my back, underarms, stomach, inner thighs, bottom of my feet and arms.
I'm frustrated to say the least and am afraid to continue using with all these new spots appearing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Kimberly
Hi,
The scaly patches caused by psoriasis, called psoriatic plaques, are areas of inflammation and excessive skin production. Skin rapidly accumulates at these sites and takes a silvery-white appearance. Plaques frequently occur on the skin of the elbows and knees, but can affect any area including the scalp and genitals.
Ointment and creams containing coal tar, dithranol (anthralin), corticosteroids like desoximetasone (Topicort), vitamin D3 analogues (for example, calcipotriol), and retinoids are routinely used.
You could consider phototherapy as daily, short, non-burning exposure to sunlight helped to clear or improve psoriasis.
