Question for Dr. Rockoff.........About a mark on face.....Please Help!

Dear Dr. Rockoff,

About 2 months ago I got a sunburn.  My face was red for about 2 days......no blisters or anything, just peeling.  After that I noticed a red/dark (or discolored) blotch/spot on my cheek.  It was not brown at all, so I know that it is not pigmentation.  (FYI : also, a month before the sunburn, I had an allergic reaction to mango peel and my face broke out in a blotchy rash.  I used over the counter hydrocortizone to treat it.  The mark I have now, looks just like the ones that I had during the rash.) Anyways, it seemed to be fading a little bit after a month and a half or so.  The thing is that I went to the dermatologist because my face was getting kind of dry and I was putting moisturizer on it and it wasn't doing anything.  She said I was a little dry and prescribed something called Klaron lotion, 10%.  I used this a couple of times but I had to stop because my face started getting really red and irritated.  I could see my face getting red immediately after applying the Klaron lotion, so I had to splash water on my face to calm the redness down.  I called my dermatologist and she said to use nizoral cream.  That is where I am at now.  My face is still kind of red and dry but what worries me the most is the blotch/spot that I was referring to at the beginning.  When I used the Klaron lotion, that part got extremely red (more red than the other parts).  And now that is the most noticeable part.  It looks very red and inflamed right now.......I also want to use the word burned to describe it but it never really burned or stung, so I don't think it is burned.  I haven't really been getting sun in the past year and half, apart from that one time that I mentioned, so I am pretty white right now and I know that things are more noticeable on fairer skin.  So, my question is do you think that this blotch/spot will fade away?  It can't be anything serious or permanent, right?  Red marks like this on the face usually go away, right?  I just need a little reassurance because I am very self conscious about it right now.  Thank you so much in advance for your help, doctor, I really appreciate it.

Thank you,
Rob

Mango rinds contain the same chemical as the one in poison ivy.  Whether that's the cause or not, any inflammation can leave extra pigmentation that lasts a while.  I would do as little as possible and wait for the mark to go away, which I'm confident it will, without bleaching creams and so forth.  Klaron lotion is a very mild antibiotic.  If even that made you sting, I would wait a month or so and show it to the dermatologist again in the event it is still there, which it probably won't be.

Best.
