Question on Lower Lip

by aarroyo10, Feb 26, 2008 11:10PM
Hello Doctor, I just had a question in regards to a small white looking spot on my lower lip. Let me first start off by saying that my long time girlfriend of 7 years has oral herpes that she has had since she was a child. She has not a breakout in a while and I just recently as of last month tested negative for both Type 1 and type 2. This small white spot does not burn or tingle or cant really be seen but just being a little paranoid I just wanted to get your opinion of would this sounds like to you. I just noticed last week, I'm not obsessing about it just wanted some clarification to see what it could be. And it is just one.
The other question is my girlfriend got tested for both HSV and she had the herpes select and tested with a score of 4.3 on the HSV-1 and 1.2 on the HSV-2. Her doctors told her that the 1.2 is low enough that it could be wrong and multiple doctors told her the same thing. I wanted to get your opinion as well.
Thank you,

Curious

A small, white spot that stays there is not what herpes looks like.  Oral herpes looks like a scab that stays for a week an goes away, then comes back sometime.  Show a doctor next time you go, so you'll know for sure.

A positive herpes 1 test means nothing, just that someone had herpes somewhere on the body sometime, and your girlfriend already knows that,  As for the herpes 2 test being low, so it might be wrong, I don't really know what that means.  If it's low, then it's negative.  Anyhow, that has nothing to do with oral herpes.  If the doctor thinks the herpes 2 test--which is for genital herpes--is unreliable, then the test should be repeated, so they'll know for sure, one way or the other.  But again, that has nothing to do with oral herpes.

Best.
