Question

by WORRIEDASHECK, Jan 30, 2006 12:00AM
Hi, I have always been paranoid about stds, I have been tested for all the ones, that are prevalent, and all came up negative, even HIV. Now the only one that had me paranoid was herpes. I will admit I do too much research and any type of symptom or itch scares me, and makes me think I have something. For the past 3 yrs i have been in a monagomus relationship. I did step out maybe 5 weeks ago, and had unprotected oral sex performed on me by another person. But after about 1 minute I asked them to stop because it did not feel right. Now sometimes i may get a white head on my bottom lip when i shave the patch of hair under my bottom lip. I may use some clipper cleaner on my shavers that is known to irratate skin. So i saw a bump and it got bigger, i did research and it appeared to be a cold sore. but i never ever had them before, and the only person i have kissed in 3 yrs was my girlfriend. I was paranoid to death. so i went to my dr. and she decided to get me tested for herpes. a herpes specific test. these are the test results.

hsv igg type 1  h> 5.00   hsv igg type 2 < .90

< .90 negative no hsv-1 or hsv 2 igg antibody detected

.90- 1.10 equivocal   > 1.10 positive hsv-1 or hsv 2 igg antibody detected

at the bottom it also said:  herpes igm antibody not detected.

I will admit i masturbate alot but not frequently, and I was concerned about the small very small bumps on the ridge of the head of my penis that have been there forever. but after all the research i did those bumps scared me, and also just under that on the shaft of my penis is like a line of very small bumps, not a cluster on my penis. If u just looked at it you couldnt see it. and they are not big at all and they have not scabbed and do not hurt. now they have probably been there forever but its like any bump i get i think its herpes, and these test results seem negative in a good way but they are confusing. I know that maybe rough or frequent sex could cause some of these skin issues.  And i am still terrified.  Please help. Thank you

Your herpes 2 test was negative.  The positive herpes 1 test only means you were exposed to the strain that causes oral herpes at some point, nit that you have genital herpes.  The bumps you are describing on your penis do not sound like herpes, but like normal anatomical variants.  You need someone knowledgeable to look at you and tell you this, and you also need to avoid risky behavior, as well possibly as counseling to relieve you of both risk and obsession.

Best.

I've noticed over the past few months that I've had some dry skin on my penis when it become erect, and when masturbating around the head, but not on it the skin become irritated. It burns sometimes when I urinate but not all the time, and I haven't any lumps, bumps, or blisters. When looking at my flacid penis nothing seems out of the ordinary. Any suggestions?
